Starting from October 7, 2023, this massive conflict has not been solved. Recently, on January 19, 2025, to be exact, Israel and Hamas agreed to halt the fight in Gaza. This helped around 2 million people living in Gaza, giving the temporary peace (Middle East Institute, 2025).
January 19th, 2025. The first truce of this agreement lasts 6 weeks as Israelis who were captured by Hamas will be freed and returned to Israel in exchange for Israel releasing Palestinian prisoners (AI Jazeera, 2025).
Long before this event, on October 7, 2023, Hamas fighters launched from Gaza, which led to around 1,200 deaths in Israel. Not to mention, around 250 people were taken as hostages. This caused a significant Israeli military response in Gaza, as according to the Hamas-run health ministry, more than 46,700 people were killed. Before Israel marked a year since the attacks from October 7, the UN humanitarian agencies have officially signed a declaration in which they demanded the end of this “appalling human suffering and humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza” (BBC, 2019).
